We are excited to share a project that was just installed at Whitman Partners. As part of a remodel for their existing office space, Fluent Design came to us with plans to update their meeting area. The plans called for a counter in a U-shape that would incorporate two columns in the space. On the inside of the counter, there would also be comfortable seating. As we collaborated on the project, we were able to select materials and products that fit their specifications. We established which features and finishing options they were looking for so that the finished project fit with their vision.
Juniper was selected for the counters and modesty panels. The juniper wood is salvaged as part of a restoration project in eastern Oregon. Juniper has beautiful grain with warm cream and reddish tones and can be more durable than cedar or redwood. The client preferred the reddish tones, so we accommodated their preference by selecting planks that had more of the heartwood. We also used planks that were from the same batch so that we could match them and achieve a more seamless look.
After finishing the wood, we created an angled edge on the underside known as a knife edge. Then the counters were custom cut to perfectly fit around the columns. Our custom metal worker designed and fabricated U-legs that fit the counter and left space for the surrounding chairs.
The seating for the center of the space was sourced from Jasper Group Brand from their Connect line. We specified units that fit into the space and had a built-in corner table. The client selected the fabric and finishes for the wood and metal colors.
Our team was on site the day of the install to ensure that our design, wood and metal components all came together. We’ve also followed up with the customer to do any modifications needed as the products are being used. A staff member told us that “this turned out so beautiful and the finish is so nice I can’t help but run my hand along it every time I walk by.” That is what we like to hear.
