Juniper is a native species found throughout Eastern Oregon. While juniper contributes to a scenic landscape, years of wildfire suppression have allowed it to take over what was formerly a high desert grassland ecosystem. Its out-of-control population growth and thirst for limited water supplies lead to erosion and a loss of biodiversity. As a result, many acres of juniper are now being cut as part of a program to restore the grassland ecosystem. Our juniper is sourced from this program as we work to develop markets for this beautiful, durable, and useful wood while supporting the sawmills in rural communities.
